Thirty-six years on, the iconic Beetlejuice is making a grand return to the big screen with a highly anticipated sequel titled Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. This star-studded and spooky follow-up brings together the original cast from the 1998 film as they traverse fantastical settings.

While many of the scenes in this hair-raising tale unfold in sets that seem out of this world, a significant portion takes place in the charming American small town of Winter River, Connecticut. Now, you might ask, have you ever heard of this place? Well, the town in Beetlejuice is a work of fiction, but the real-life town of East Corinth, Vermont served as the inspiration for representing the town in both the original movie and the sequel.

Due to the SAG-AFTRA strike that began in July 2023, the filming of the sequel was delayed, and some sequences were also shot in Melrose, Massachusetts, as per Screenrant. So, if you want to bring this creepy tale to life beyond the screen, make your way to the filming locations in Vermont and Massachusetts this fall.

East Corinth, Vermont

Although the fictional storefronts may no longer be visible, you can still head to East Corinth and spot the building used as Miss Shannon’s School for Girls from the film at 778 Village Road.

Beyond its film landmarks, this town has plenty to offer visitors. Wicked Good Stuff in East Corinth is a vintage clothing store right next to the Waits River. Or, take a 30-minute drive from this picturesque town to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of Seyon Lodge State Park, where you’ll be greeted by a serene lake surrounded by emerald trees. And if you’re looking for a fun apple picking experience, head to the nearby Liberty Orchard in Brookfield, Vermont, which is filled with dwarf apple trees, perfect for both kids and adults.

Melrose, Massachusetts

Although not as crucial to Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the town of Melrose still offers a taste of that classic New England fall charm. Some of the film’s Halloween sequences were shot here, so the town was adorned with fake spiders and cobwebs even during the off-season. When you visit Melrose, look out for the red house with a treehouse in the backyard in the area of Charles and Oakland streets, where a large portion of the filming centered around Jenna Ortega’s character. In fact, according to NBC10 Boston, even the renowned director Tim Burton himself was spotted lying on the road while preparing for the filming.

Aside from the filming sites, take a stroll around the Middlesex Fells Reservation to discover hidden woodland streams or enjoy the views of the not-so-distant city of Boston. Or, immerse yourself in the world of music at the Melrose Symphony Orchestra, which has been around for over 100 years.
